Abstract
Objective:The aim of this study was to evaluate the stress distribution of the narrow diameter implant-supported overdenture in mandible induced by the number of the implants and the type of the attachment, through finite element analysis. Method:The CT data of mandible and denture from a patient were collected. Then reverse engineer softwares were used to construct a 3D finite element model of the complete narrow diameter implant-supported overdenture in mandible, which include cortical bone in mandible, cancellous bone, different types of attachment (bar attachment B;ball attachment R;magnetic attachment M)and overdenture. By definition the contact relationship of different parts of the model and simulate vertical occlusion of the right posterior teeth, to investigate the stress distribution of the narrow diameter planting overdenture in mandible induced by the number of the implants and the type of the attachment. Result:The peak stress in peri-implant of the even implants was obviously lower than the odd implants. The peak stress in peri-implant of the bar attachment was low, followed by the ball attachment and the magnetic attachment was the highest. The peak stress in peri-implant of the bar attachment was inversely proportional to the number of the implants. The peak stress in peri-implant of the magnetic attachment was proportinal to the number of the implants. Conclusion:The number of the implants and the type of the attachment have a significant effect on the stress distribution in mandible. It is advised that the bar attachment design of the even number implants has the priority in clinical practice, and the next choice is the ball attachment implant design.关键词
