The miniature pig as an animal model in otological research
摘要
Abstract
The miniature pig genome is highly homologous to that of humans. The reasons for the use of the swine in otological research are its similarities in anatomy and physiology to humans, in addition to the financial and ethical advan-tages. In this review, we describe the anatomical, morphological, and electrophysiological characteristics of the miniature pig ear. We summarize the uses of the miniature pig in otological research, including deafness research, hearing implant and ear surgery training. The miniature pig is more suitable as an animal model for studying human hearing disorders and has the potential to become a cornerstone in otological and hearing research.关键词
