DERIVATION OF ICE-FLOW VELOCITY OF POLAR RECORD GLACIER USING AN IMPROVED NCC ALGORITHM

Abstract
The ice-flow velocity of Antarctic glaciers plays an important role in the mass balance of Antarctica.In this study,a rotation parameter from the scale invariant feature transform(SIFT)algorithm was introduced into the tra-ditional method for ice-flow velocity derivation,based on the Normalized Cross Correlation (NCC)algorithm,to build a method with rotation invariance.Ice-flow velocities for the Polar Record Glacier in East Antarctica were then derived using Landsat 8 OLI data and the method developed in the first part of the study.Validation was car-ried out using simulated data and velocity data from NASA’s MEaSUREs project.The results indicated that more ice-flow velocity information in the direction of velocity change could be derived using the improved algorithm.This method derived a maximum velocity of 870 m·a -1 for the Polar Record Glacier,compared with MEaSUREs data that showed an average offset of 23.9 m·a -1 .关键词
