Abstract
Objective To explore the influence of nostalgic therapy on cognitive function and quality of life (QOL) of patients with Alzheimer’s disease. Methods Six-eight patients with Alzheimers’s disease were divided into control group and intervention group with 34 patients in each group. Patients in control group received conventional medications, health education and cognitive intervention while those in intervention group received 8-week nostalgic therapy in addition to the interventions conducted in control group. Mini-mental State Examination (MMSE) and the Quality of Life-Alzheimer Disease (QOL-AD) scale were applied before and after the intervention. Results There was no statistical significance of the score of MMSE and QOL-AD scale before the intervention. After 8-week intervention, the score of MMSE in intervention group (21.12±3.32) and that in control group (16.82±3.26) and the score of QOL-AD scale in intervention group (28.12 ±3.52) and that in control group (19.29 ±3.16) indicated statistical significance (t=3.75, P<0.01 and t=11.35, P<0.01 respectively). Conclusion Nostalgic therapy is effective for promoting cognitive funtion and QOL of patients with Alzheimer’s disease.关键词
