Abstract

A project, which is a high⁃pile wharf being reconstructed and reinforced in Jiangsu, can be an exam⁃ple to be analyzed by plane and space finite element models separately and the internal forces of the reconstructed wharf were calculated under different loading combinations. The conclusions of the research show that:(1)Based on the results of plane and space calculation methods, the pile internal forces in the reconstructed and reinforced high⁃pile wharf approximate to each other under the same loading combination.(2)The plane finite element model makes all the loads assumed to act on the transverse bents after the simplification. However, the space finite ele⁃ment model can be loaded by the real loading distribution. Therefore, a great difference exists in the results of beam internal forces due to the two calculation methods.(3)According to the characteristics of the plane and space finite element calculation method, for the more important and large quantities of reinforcement and reconstruction project, the plane finite element method is suggested to use for the project plan, and it is suggested to use the space finite element method to analyze the internal force and arrange reinforcements of main components.
