Abstract
In the development process of urban space in China, city streets have experienced constant changes and always play an important role in connecting different areas of the city, providing daily public space and promoting trade, cultural exchange, etc. However, in the rapid urbanization process, some part of the streets at some cities in China are facing a few problems such as low environmental quality, rapid motorization and weakened public use. This paper reviewed the development history of streets in ancient China, and based on that the paper recognized the relationship with the streets and society and culture of the city. In the evolution history of the streets in Taipei City, four key factors as "smal-size block", "residential and commercial mixed-use ", "legal norms" and "policy and social power" have shaped the city streets significantly. By recognizing the city streets, a possible development direction has been raised up which is consistant with the history and culture of China.关键词
