Abstract

Mineralogical characteristics of Kaokoveld dioptase is investgated by X-ray power analysis,infrared spectroscopic analysis,electronprobe wave spectrum analysis,IR spectra,Raman spectra and Uv-vis spectra a-nalysis.The dioptase with the associations of quartz and endlichite,and green to light cyan columanar crystals combinated by hexagonal prism and rhombohedron,occurs in Kaokoveld,Kunene region,Namibia.The elec-tron-microprobe analyses show that the CuO contents vary from 45.02% to 45.48%,and SiO2 contents vary from 42.33% to 42.69% in dioptase,different from Tsumeb dioptase and Tantara dioptase.Changes in chemi-cal composition lead to a slight contraction of the crystal structure.It is the main reasons causing the changes of peak intensity and position of the Diop-Ka IR spectrum from 900 cm -1 to 1 200 cm -1 and Raman spectrum in the vicinity of 561 cm -1 ,800 cm -1 and 836 cm -1 .The maximum transmission rate of Kaokoveld dioptase is near 500 nm,resulting in the crystal with the green to light cyan.
