Building and Implementation of Maintenance Network of Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters

Abstract
Objective To establish a PICC maintenance network, and to provide convenient and standardized catheter maintenance for discharged patients with PICC. Methods Through the establishment of continuous PICC nursing team, with the channels of nurse training, general practitioner training and targeted assistance, the PICC maintenance network has been established, and its management was implemented. Results At present, there were 96 PICC maintenance network outlets covering 33 district or county-level hospitals, 29 community health service centers and 34 township central hospitals. The number of maintenance crews with PICC maintenance training reached 391and telephone counseling 258 times. We helped to solve difficult problems of PICC placement and maintenance for 176 cases. The total incidence of catheter-related complications decreased from 27.1% to 13.4% after the establishment of the maintenance network, and the satisfaction rate of patients increased by 8.4%. Conclusion The establishment of PICC maintenance network meets the requirement of nearest maintenance for PICC patients, and improves catheter maintenance quality and patients’ satisfaction.关键词
