Effect of Modified Early Warning Score on Quantitative Disease Condition Evaluation of Patients with Respiratory Disease in Emergency Department

Abstract
Objective To discuss the effect of modified early warning score (MEWS) on quantitative disease condition evaluation of patients with respiratory disease in emergency department. Methods Eight hundred cases of patients with respiratory disease in emergency department from May 2014 to December 2014 were selected and randomly divided into observation group ( n=400) and control group (n=400). Patients in control group received traditional nursing intervention, while those in observation group received MEWS-based stratified nursing intervention. Incidence of accidents, patients ’ satisfaction and average length of stay were analyzed and compared between two groups. Results The incidence rate of accidents was 14 patients in observation group which was lower than that of 29 patients in control group and it is statistically significant (χ²=5.53, P=0.019).The satisfaction degree of patients in observation group was higher than that in control group, and it was statistically significant (Z=4.73, P<0.001). Conclusion MEWS is beneficial to conducting stratified nursing for patients with respiratory disease in emergency department, since targeted nursing intervention contributed to reducing accidents and improving patients ’ satisfaction. MEWS is simple and practical and is worth to be promoted clinically.关键词
