An Empirical Research of Patent Portfolio Analysis Method on the Patent Layout of Research Institute

Abstract
[ Purpose/Significance] The patent portfolio analysis method on the research institute level is oriented to the research institutes on the comprehensive evaluation of patent layout. The model analyzes the strength of patent layout in research institutes, aiming at establis-hing the corresponding development strategies and greatly improving the efficiency of protection, utilization and management in patent lay-out. [ Method/Process] By factor analysis method, seven indicators are combined in the portfolio scale dimension, including the number of patent application, the number of invention, the number of granted patents, the scope of global protection, the scope of technological protection, the number of patent renewal in Nth year and the number of patent licensing or ownership transfer. The portfolio quality dimen-sion is based on science linkage and average citation index. Through the patent layout position, the advantage and disadvantage among in-stitutes are identified so as to clearly reveal the layout of the institutes. From T0 to Tt, the intertemporal decision analysis is based on the current and ideal position of the institutes, in order to dynamically plan assessment strategies. [ Result/Conclusion] The combined indica-tor dimensions are in high internal reliability, and more effectively for assessing the patent portfolio management in Chinese research insti-tutes. The intertemporal decision analysis is contributed to exploring the strategies of institutes and also the transformation caused by the patent layout. Our model is different from the company level of patent portfolio analysis in indicator selection, combined method and clus-ters.关键词
