Abstract

By outlining the concept of building information modeling ( BIM ) , this paper analyzes the advantages of whole life cycle concept based on BIM technology and reviews the development status of BIM technology in the building industry and domestic railway. Moreover, five key points of BIM application should be taken into account in railway design: combination with GIS, comprehensive pipeline collision detection, yard operation management, collaborative design and operation, and coordination in each stage of the project. There are five problems in domestic BIM development:absence of industry standards, lack of 3D collaborative design concept, insufficient professional software, and market cognition and talents cultivation issues. Corresponding strategies of BIM implementation are also put forward. It is concluded that BIM will lead to the informationalized and intelligent development of railway.
