7种植物对热带珊瑚岛环境的生态适应性

Abstract

The vegetation of tropical coral islands in China is very easy to be degraded. Revegetation of coral islands is urgently needed to ensure their sustainable development, but lack of suitable plant species. To select suitable plant species for the revegetation of coral islands, we measured the photosynthetic characteristics, seedlings survival and growth rate of seven plant species (Calophyllum inophyllum,Terminalia catappa,Cocos nucifera,Clerodendrum inerme,Scaevola sericea,Pandanus tectorius and Canavalia maritima) planted in Wenchang and one of the coral islands of Hainan province. The results showed that there was no significant difference of leaf area between two different habitats except for Canavalia maritime(P>0.05); Soil and plant analyzer development (SPAD) value also showed no significant difference between the two habitats. Compared with the plant species growing in Wenchang, five plant species growing in coral island had significant lower intercellular CO2concentration, with no significant difference being found in Scaevola sericeaandCanavalia maritime. However, the transpiration rates decreased but the instantaneous water use efficiency (IWUE) increased significantly (P<0.01) for all seven plant species growing in the coral island.Calophyllum inophyllum,Terminalia catappa and Canavalia maritimehad higher maximum photosynthetic rate than the other species. The seedling survival rates of 6 plant species (except forClerodendrum inerme) were higher than 95%. The growth rate ofScaevola sericeaandCanavalia maritimewere higher than the other 5 plant species. In conclusion, most plant species growing on the coral island could reduce their stomatal conductance and transpiration, regulate photosynthetic carbon assimilation and water utilization strategy effectively to cope with the drought and poor nutrient conditions. Our results suggest thatScaevola sericea, Calophyllum inophyllum, Canavalia maritima andTerminalia catappaare appropriate tool plant species for revegetation of tropical coral islands.
