Abstract

ABSTRACT:The experimental investigation of three typical compositions of mixture R601a/R600a and pure R601a was conducted by using an organic Rankine cycle (ORC) power generation experimental system. The experimental system used a scroll expander as the expander. The key components’ operation parameters and system performance of these working fluids were gained. These three compositions were 0.8/0.2(R601a/R600a, M1), 0.6/0.4(R601a/R600a, M2) and 0.4/0.6(R601a/R600a, M3). The experimental results indicate that due to the characteristic that is the non-isothermal phase transition at constant pressure, R601a/R600a can recovery much more heat from the heat source fluid than R601a. Under the heat source temperature of 120℃ and the sink source temperature of 30℃, the net power outputs of M1 and M2 are larger than that of R600a by 10% and 17.2%, respectively. In the composition range presented in paper, the expansion ratio of R601a/R600a decreases with the decrease of R601a’s proportion. In addition, the optimal composition having the highest net power output is in the vicinity of 0.6/0.4. The experimental results have a great significance for the use of R601a/R600a in the ORC power generation system.
