右美托咪定是美托咪定的右旋体，目前其滴鼻剂在临床上主要用于麻醉、麻醉辅助用药，通过滴鼻给药，可以降低患者麻醉时或麻醉后呼吸道腺体分泌，同时对患者鼻黏膜无刺激作用，不抑制呼吸中枢，患者耐受较好，同时还有镇静作用，及减少手术与麻醉引起的交感神经反射，稳定患者血流动力学作用。
