Abstract

Objective To investigate the expression changes of cell adhesion molecule-1 (CADM1) in human ovari-an carcinoma and its clinical significance.Methods A total of 59 case of ovarian carcinoma tissues and matched tumor-adjacent tissues were collected.The mRNA and protein expression of CADM1 in the ovarian carcinoma tissues and matched tumor-adjacent tissues was examined by qRT-PCR, immunohistochemistry and Western blotting.The Chi-square test and Kaplan-Meier analysis was used to evaluate the correlation between CADM1 expression and clinicopathological characteris-tics or overall survival.Results The expression of CADM1 mRNA and protein in the ovarian carcinoma tissues was 0.28 ±0.12 and 1.32 ±0.23, respectively, 1.52 ±0.14 and 2.93 ±0.42 in the matched tumor-adjacent tissues, and signifi-cant difference was found between these two kinds of tissues (all P<0.05).The percentage of positive cells in the adja-cent tumor tissues (90%±5%) was significantly higher than that of the cancer tissues (10%±2%), P<0.05.The ex-pression of CADM1 was significantly associated with the FIGO stage, nodal metastasis and distant metastasis ( all P <0.05).The median survival time of patients with low expression of CADM1 (mRNA expression <0.57) was higher than that of patients with high expression (13.2 vs.24.5 months, P<0.05).Conclusion CADM1 is low expressed in the human ovarian cancer tissues.The low expression of CADM1 promotes the occurrence and development of ovarian cancer, and is related to its poor prognosis.
