Abstract

The thermal fatigue or thermal shock to reactor pressure vessel(RPV)is well known as an im-portant damage mechanism in safety injection system of pressurized water reactor(PWR).The thermal shock will affect the integrity of the reactor system.To ensure safe operation of the PWR,it is very impor-tant to study thermal shock.A model was set up to simulate the thermal shock process in pressure vessel of CAP1400.Using Fluent software,numerical simulation was carried out to study the influence of non-constant density on the thermal shock,so as to obtain the temperature field and the relationship between flow rate and the Ri in feature region.Results show that when the DVI flow rate is lower than 0.045 m3/s,non-constant density on the influence of the calculation results can′t be ignored.Under that condi-tion,the low temperature flow of DVI was mixed with the high temperature flow of downcomer,and its temperature increases in very short time.And its low temperature region was smaller than that under con-stant density condition.But when the flow rate was much higher than 0.045 m3/s,the forced convection played the leading role,ignore the density change have little influence on the result.The research resultsprovide data guidance for the numerical simulation of the thermal shock.
