Abstract
Objective To investigate the influence of oral health education to oral health of elderly residents in the community. Methods 200 cases of elderly residents in the community from December 2014 to December 2015 community were selected and randomly divided into control group and observation group with 100 cases in each. Person in control group were given to explain the need for a simple method for proper brushing and brushing at first distributed free toothbrushes and toothpaste,and person in observation group were organized oral health education lectures and four times-one health education talks in the free distribution of toothbrushes and toothpaste period. The elderly oral health assessment index (GOHAI) at entry and 12 months was compared.Results There were no statistical significance on physiological function,pain and discomfort,mental function,Behavior,GOHAI score between the two groups before the intervention (P>0.05).There were no statistical significance on physiological function,pain and discomfort, mental function,behavior influence,GOHAI score of control group before and after intervention (P>0.05).Physiological function,pain and discomfort,mental function, behavior influence,GOHAI score of observation group at 12 months after health education intervention were significantly lower than those before the intervention and those of control group at 12 months after health education intervention,and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05).Conclusion The community oral health education can effectively enhance oral health awareness of the elderly residents in community and improve oral health status of the population.关键词
