摘要

Abstract

The Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 2011 was awarded to Dan Shechtman for his discovery of quasicrystals, which has triggered a flurry of activity on the fabrication, crystal structure, property and application on quasiperiodic materials over the past 5 years.The structure refinement of quasicrystal models, enhancement of mechanical, physical and chemical properties as well as some new synthesis and characterization techniques are reviewed firstly, followed by some discussions on several potential applications for such exotic materials.
