Abstract
Objective:To explore the value of short message service (SMS) alerts to urge the time of taking medicine in improving the bowel preparation for colonoscopy .Methods:Prospectively enrolled 100 patients were randomly divided into the SMS alert group and the control group (n= 50) .In the SMS alert group ,patients received an SMS alert 6 h before colonoscopy that reminded them of taking 2L polyethylene glycol (PEG) .There was no SMS alert for patients in the control group .The bowel preparation quality of the two groups was compared with the Ottawa bowel preparation scale .Results:Compared with the control group ,more patients in the SMS alert group limited the preparation-to-colonoscopy (PC) interval time to 3 to 5 h (62% vs 15% ,P=0 .001) .The bowel preparation quality of the SMS alert group was significantly better than that of the control group (Ottawa bowel preparation score:3 .2 ± 2 .1 vs 4 .8 ± 2 .4 , P=0 .001) .Conclusions:SMS alerts can effectively ensure the optimal time window of taking medicine so as to improve the quality of bowel preparation .关键词
