Abstract
Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of topiramate combined with sodium valproate in the treatment of epilepsy in children. Methods Eighty children with epilepsy were randomly assigned to control group and combination group,40 cases in each group.Besides topiramate for the two groups,the combination group received sodium valproate.The ef-ficacies and adverse reactions of the two groups were observed.Results Three months after treatment,the total effective rate in the combination group was 95%,significantly higher than 80% in the control group(P <0.05).Six months after treatment, the total effective rates of two groups were 97.5% and 87.5% respectively,which showed no statistical difference(P >0.05). The frequencies of epileptic seizure monthly in the two groups were decreased both three and six months after treatment(P <0.01),which was more obviously reduced six months after treatment than that three months after treatment(P <0.01 ),and the combination group had less frequencies than the control group(P <0.01).The incidences of adverse reactions of control group and combination group were 10% and 1 5%,which indicated no difference(P >0.05).Conclusion Topiramate combined with sodium valproate can reduce short-term seizure frequency with less adverse reactions and better tolerance in children with epilepsy.关键词
