Abstract

HMX (cyclotetramethylenetetranitramine) was prepared with dimethylsulfoxide as solvent by spray crys‐tallization refinement method .The influences of the type of non‐solvent such as water ,ethanol and chlorinated al‐kanes ,the volume ratio between solvent and non‐solvent ,and the temperature of non‐solvent on the morphology of HMX crystal were studied .The mechanism of their effects was analyzed .Scanning electron microscope (SEM ) ,la‐ser particle size analyzer ,X‐ray diffractometer(XRD) and differential scanning calorimetry(DSC) were employed to characterize the samples and conduct the thermal analysis .The impact sensitivity of raw material and sprayed refi‐ning HMX was measured .The results show that the optimum conditions of refining HMX are ethanol at 35℃ as the solvent ,and the volume ratio of solvent and non‐solvent as 1∶40 .The submicron HMX with median diameter of 616nm and uniform particle size distribution was obtained ,its particle tends to be spherical and surface is smooth . Compared to the raw HMX ,and the apparent activation energy of submicron HMX reduces by 13 .75 kJ/mol ,hav‐ing good thermal stability ,and the characteristic drop height increases from 34 .05 cm to 79 .10 cm ,revealing that its impact sensitivity reduces significantly .
