Power Damping Synchronization Control for MMC-HVDC Connected to an Extremely Weak Receiving AC Grid

Abstract
Integrating the current vector control and power synchronization control, and introducing instantaneous damping power component, a novel power damping synchronization control was proposed for modular multilevel converter based HVDC (MMC-HVDC) connecting to an extremely weak receiving AC grid. A small signal mathematical model of MMC-HVDC system was deduced, and the impact of power damping synchronization controller parameters on system stability was analyzed under extremely weak receiving AC system condition. Then, the controller parameter adjustable range, with which MMC-HVDC system could maintain stable operation, was investigated under different short circuit ratios (SCRs). Finally, The MMC-HVDC system connected to an extremely weak receiving AC grid was developed, and simulation analysis was conducted in the PSCAD/EMTDC. The results show that the presented power damping synchronization control method has favorable performances, and has the ability to strengthen the operation stability of MMC-HVDC connecting to an extremely weak receiving AC grid.关键词
