Abstract

To find the difference between the hand-sheets made in the lab and the ink-jet paper on the market, meanwhile to establish a more systematical paper quality evaluation method, 11 kinds of paper with various qualities and purposes was prepared to test the physical properties, printing performances and hydrophobic properties. The comprehensive performance of different ink-jet paper was evaluated by mathematical model of principal component analysis (PCA) and cluster analysis. The results indicated that the two principal component extracted by cumulative variance and eigenvalue contained nearly 83.55%information, using the less component to cover the more information. The factors in the second and third quadrant showed the positive correlation in the PC1-PC2 plane. The factors in the first and forth quadrant were the same. Whether the coefficient of the R value was determined to be positive or negative by the distribution of factors in the PC1-PC2 plane. The 11 kinds of ink-jet paper were classified into another 3 group. The overall performance of hand-sheet was closed to Paper4 and Paper5 calculated by the cluster distance. These would provide the theoretical basis to improve paper performance and scientifically evaluate the paper quality.
