Opportunistic maintenance on series-parallel systems with multi-stage bottlenecks using the theory of constraints

Abstract
For serial⁃parallel manufacturing systems that experience bottlenecks, we used the theory of constraints to differentiate between the maintenance strategies of different machines in different situations to ensure the maximum utilization of machines in bottleneck situations. This opportunistic preventive maintenance model is based on the re⁃liability of a target to optimize multi⁃objectives, namely, to minimize maintenance costs and maximize the produc⁃tion capacity of the whole system. We used Monte Carlo simulation on the model to obtain the appropriate threshold values and the maintenance scheme. In an applied case, we demonstrate that our proposed method can produce an opportunistic maintenance scheme that ensures the optimal combination of production capacity and cost in series⁃parallel systems with multi⁃stage bottlenecks.关键词
