Abstract

Numerous medicinal plants were selected for their antifungal activities against citrus postharvest pathogens including Penicillium italicum and Penicillium digitatum. The extracts from fruits of Ficus hirta showed promising antifungal activity. However, the antifungal constituents were not clear. In order to elucidate the antifungal constituents existing in fruits of Ficus hirta, the ethanol extracts of fruits of Ficus hirta were isolated to identify the active constituents. The bioassay method tested by cylinder­plate was used to guarantee the isolation of antifungal constituents. Macro resin column, Sephadex LH­20 column and ODS column were used to isolate three compounds. Their structures were determined as pinocembrin­7­O­β­D­glucoside (compound 1), naringenin­7­O­β­D­glucoside(compound 2) and eriodictyol­7­O­β­D­glucoside (compound 3) by NMR and MS spectroscopy. Compound 1, namely pinocembrin­7­O­β­D­glucoside, showed good antifungal activity, which was the major antifungal constituent existing in fruits of Ficus hirta.
