Effect of Personal and Social Psychological Factors on Treatment Outcome of Women Undergoing in Vitro Fertilization and Embryo Transfer

Abstract
Objective To explore the effect of personal and social psychological factors of women undergoing in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer (IVF-ET) on treatment outcome. Methods With randomize sampling method, a total of 202 women undergoing IVF-ET completed Self-Designed questionnaire, Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS), Olson Marital inventory (three subscales) and Social Support Rating Scale (SSRS) at the first day of IVF treatment cycle. The logistic regression was used to analyze the effect of personal and social psychological factors on treatment outcome. Results The overall prevalence of anxiety was 48.5%and, and that of depression 56.9%among all women. The findings showed that anxiety and depression had effect on treatment outcome (P<0.001);higher scores of “satisfaction of marriage”, “communication between husband and wife” and “sexual relationship” correlated with IVF-ET success (P<0.001) and higher scores of “objective social support”,“subjective social support”and “support utilization” correlated with IVF-ET success (P<0.001). The results of logistic regression analysis indicated the degree of anxiety and depression, the total score of 3 factors of marital quality and subjective social support exerted influence on treatment outcome. Conclusion Depression and anxiety commonly exist in women undergoing IVF-ET, and their personal and social psychological factors have certain effect on treatment outcome. Thus, it is important to improve personal and social psychological factors of women undergoing IVE-ET.关键词
