摘要

Abstract

To evaluate the feasibility of using fast-growing poplar to fabricate cross laminated lumber (CLT),the planar (rolling) shear properties of fast-growing poplar,modified fast-growing poplar compressed in the transverse direction,modified fast-growing poplar impregnated with phenol-formaldehyde(PF)resin and Spruce-pine-fir (SPF)dimension lumber were measured using hybrid CLT in this study.The failure modes in planar(rolling)shear tests were also analyzed.It could be found that there was no obvious improvement in planar shear properties of fast-growing poplar after modification.The typical failure modes of fast-growing poplar and SPF in planar shear test included rolling shear failure along the growth ring direction,shear failure along the wood ray direction and shear failure along glue line direction.The planar shear modulus and strength of fast-growing poplar and modified fast-growing poplar were higher than those of SPF.Normal fast-growing poplar could been used in CLT as cross layer directly.
