Abstract

In this paper, prediction of cabin noise of a crude oil tanker is discussed. Firstly, Statistic Energy Analysis (SEA) method is introduced. Then, the acoustic model is built by using the VA One software. Properties of the SEA subsystem, such as plate and acoustic cavity are determined according to the design requirement. Especially, sound insulation and deck covering of the specific cavity are correctly applied to the SEA model. The main engine, main generator and ventilation outlet of each room on the deckhouse are considered to be the main noise sources for the cabin noise level calculation. The calculation result shows that number of the modal in each frequency band of the cabin on the deckhouse is all larger than 5, which proves the feasibility of choosing SEA method to carry out the analysis. Finally, noise reduction effectiveness of the floating floor of the cabins, which are seriously affected by the structure-borne noise, is discussed. It shows that, after applying the floating floor, the cabin noise level is significantly reduced and less than the limit value prescribed in the MSC 337(91) standard.
