Abstract

The MADS-box gene SOC1 /TM3 (Suppressor of overexpression of constans 1 /Tomato MADS-box gene 3)integrates multiple flowering signals to regulate the transition from vegetative to reproductive development in plants.To better understand the molecular regulation of flower development in Prunus mume,three putative or-thologs of SOC1,including PmSOC1-1,PmSOC1-2,and PmSOC1-3,were isolated.The expression patterns of Pm-SOC1-1,PmSOC1-2 and PmSOC1-3 were determined by Real-time RT-PCR.Each PmSOC1-like gene has a single long open reading frame(ORF)encoding a putative protein of 21 4,21 7 and 21 9 amino acids respectively.Phyloge-netic analysis suggested that PmSOC1-1,PmSOC1-2,and PmSOC1-3 genes might be orthologous of Arabidopsis SOC1,AGL42 /71 /72,and AGL14 /19,respectively.By Real-time quantitative RT-PCR experiment,three PmSOC1-like genes were mainly expressed in vegetative organs and expressed at low level in reproductive organs such as flowers,fruit,seed and so on.The expression of the three PmSOC1-like genes showed a decreasing trend.Above re-sults suggest that the PmSOC1-like gene plays an important role in the transition from the vegetative growth to the reproductive growth phase.
