Heterogeneous activation of peroxymonosulfate by cryptomelane type manganese oxide for Acid Orange 7 degradation in aqueous solutions

Abstract
Cryptomelane-type manganese oxide,OMS-2,was prepared by a solvent-free process,and characterized by X-ray diffraction,scanning electron microscopy,N2 adsorption/desorption isotherms,and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy.The activity and stability of the catalyst were tested for degradation of Acid Orange 7 (AO7) in the presence of peroxymonosulfate.OMS-2 exhibited the typical cryptomelane phase with a nanorod morphology,and had a surface area of 129 m2 · g-1 and crystallite size of 11 nm.The catalyst was quite active for AO7 degradation,with production of sulfate radicals;AO7 was completely decolorized within 10 min due to the destruction of its conjugate structure and naphthaquinone ring.The catalyst also exhibited a high stability over ten cycles.关键词
