Abstract

To investigate the effects of sulfate corrosion and the cement-tailings ratio on the unconfined compressive strength (UCS) of lead-zinc tailings cemented paste backfill (CPB),artificial solutions with four different sulfate concentrations (0,5 000,10 000,and 20 000 mg · L-1) were selected to prepare C PB with three different cement-tailings ratios (1/6,1/8,and 1/10).The UCS of specimens with four different curing periods (3,7,14,and 28 days) was tested and analyzed.The results indicated that there was no significant difference in the UCS between different cement-tailings ratios after 3 curing days.The specimens with high cement-tailings ratios (1/6) had high UCS values after 7 curing days,and the UCS values of all specimens were higher than 1.15 MPa after 28 curing days.The specimens with high sulfate concentrations had relatively low UCS values after 3 curing days,which implies that the dehydration rate is reduced by the sulfate flocculation effect.With increasing sulfate concentration,the UCS values of all specimens which curing time longer than 3 days decreased followed by initially increasing,and the specimens had the highest UCS values when sulfate concentration was between 5 000 and 10 000 mg · L-1.The results of variance analyses revealed that the UCS of CPB is significantly affected by the cement-tailings ratio and sulfate content,with the former factor having a greater influence.
