Abstract

The pH and redox potential (Eh) of soil significantly influence the migration and transformation of Cr6+.To investigate the vertical migration and transformation of Cr6+ in soil under different initial pH and Eh conditions,a soil-column leaching experiment was undertaken with indoor continuous rainfall and five types of soil.Soil samples were obtained at different times and depths,then dissolved and filtered to obtain a supernatant,the Cr concentration of which was subsequently evaluated by atomic absorption spectroscopy.It was determined that Cr6+ is absorbed better in the acid soil,Cr6+ migrates fastest in the oxidized soil,and high levels of Cr3+ are transformed from Cr6 + in the reducing condition.Accordingly,the migration and transformation of Cr6 + can be effectively controlled by adjusting the pH and Eh of soil.On one hand,reducing the adsorption capacity of soil by increasing its pH value,as well as accelerating Cr6+ leaching out from soil,is effective;on the other hand,reducing the Eh value of soil can promote the transformation of Cr6+ to Cr3+,which has less toxicity.Therefore,in this way,soil Cr-contamination can be mitigated and its quality improved.
