摘要

Abstract

In this paper,we investigate amplitude compensation techniques of current-reuse (CR)volt-age-controlled oscillators (VCOs)and propose an innovative mono-spontaneous transconductance match (m-STM)compensation technique.Due to the asymmetrical structure of CR VCOs,the imbalance between two differential oscillating amplitudes is inevitable.The proposed m-STM technique is able to overcome the unpre-dictable amplitude imbalance.Compared to a traditional spontaneous transconductance match technique,the m-STM consumes less voltage headroom and is thus suitable for low-voltage application.The VCO is implemented in a 0.18 μm RF CMOS process.Measured results show that the VCO exhibits a high operation frequency range from 2.05 to 2.68 GHz,a corresponding frequency tuning range of 26.3%,and achieves a measured phase noise of -1 1 7.6 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset from the 2.4 GHz carrier frequency while consuming only 0.8 mW.
