Abstract

Traditional current transverse differential protection has low sensitivity and long successive operating zone. So it has shortages when applied to the high-voltage and electrical parameters asymmetry power systems. A new transverse differential protection based on the ratio of measurement impedance, i. e. the sum of measurement impedance to the difference between the measurement impedance, is proposed. The proposed scheme is unaffected by system impedance to a large extent, and has a short successive operation zone. The paper analyzes the reason for this and completes simulation research. Theoretical analysis and PSCAD/EMTDC simulation show that, compared with traditional current transverse differential protection, the ratio of measurement impedance can decrease the successive operating zone obviously. The proposed integrated protection scheme is simple, rapid, reliable, and easy to realize.
