Abstract

This work studied and compared the hydrolysis of cellulose from furfural residue in dilute acid and alkyd systems. When studied under the dilute acid system with parameters of sulfuric acid concentration 8%, hydrolysis temperature 101℃, hydrolysis time 3 h , the best cellulose hydrolysis rate is 42.4%, with glucose yield of 27.8%and sugar yield of 72.2%. Cellulose hydrolysis in an alkyd system under the above acid solution was further investigated. When the acid concentration is 8%, ethanol addition percentage is 40%, hydrolysis temperature is 83℃ and hydrolysis time is 2.5 h, the cellulose hydrolysis rate can reach to 60.1%, with glucose and sugar yields of 50.9% and 79.1%, respectively. Therefore, the alkyd system can increase cellulose hydrolysis rate by 29.4%, glucose yield by 45.4% and suger yield by 9.6%. Moreover, the hydrolysis time is reduced by 0.5 h and the hydrolysis temperature is decreased by 18℃.
