Effects of Scalp Acupuncture at Point Baihui (GV 20) plus Rehabilitation Training on Unilateral Neglect after Stroke

Abstract
Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of scalp acupuncture at point Baihui (GV 20) plus unilateral neglect rehabilitation training for unilateral neglect after stroke.Method Forty-two eligible patients with unilateral neglect after stroke were randomly allocated to a treatment group and a control group, 21 cases each. In addition to the basic treatment, the treatment group received scalp acupuncture at point Baihui (GV 20) plus unilateral neglect rehabilitation training, while the control group was intervened by unilateral neglect rehabilitation training alone. Unilateral neglect degree was evaluated by unilateral neglect rating scale and screening tests for visual neglect in the two groups before and after the treatment. The patients’ motor function and activities of daily living were also evaluated.Result The Chinese Behavioral Inattention Test (CBIT) scores, screening tests scores, Modified Barthel Index (MBI) scores and Fugl-Meyer Assessment (FMA) scores were significantly changed after intervention in the two groups (P<0.05). After treatment, the CBIT scores, screening tests scores and MBI scores in the treatment group were significantly different from that in the control group (P<0.05).Conclusion Scalp acupuncture at point Baihui (GV 20) plus unilateral neglect rehabilitation training with common medical treatment is an effective method for unilateral neglect after stroke.关键词
