Abstract

The study was conducted to investigate the effects of shading treatments on growth characteris⁃tics of the Sterculia lychnophora seedlings and provide a theoretical basis for seed breeding and artificial culti⁃vation.In the test in 2015,with the S.lychnophora seeds from typical mother trees, whose average diameter was 51~60 cm,as the test materials,five shading levels( Shading of 0,25%,50%,75% and 95%) were set up to study the effects on growth characteristics of the S.lychnophora seedlings by four indicators:growth,height to di⁃ameter ratio,biomass and chlorophyll content.And the relationships between shading and indicators were tested through single⁃factor.The results showed that the shading treatments significantly affected the growth,height to diameter ratio,biomass and chlorophyll content of the S.lychnophora seedlings.The stems and height grew best under 50%-75% shading treatment,which were significantly higher than that of the control,and the height to diameter ratio was proper.The fresh weight and dry weight were higher under 50% shading treatment.As the in⁃tensity of light decreased, the contents of total Chlorophyll and Chlorophyll b increased, chlorophyll a/b re⁃duced relatively,and the differences among the groups were remarkable.The effects of the 5 shading treatments were significantly different.The S.lychnophora seedlings at different stages demanded for the same lighting.The results further showed that the S. lychnophora seedlings had some shade tolerance, and appropriate shading treatments promoted its growth. Too strong or too weak light would inhibit the growth of seedlings. So,50% to 75% shading could improve the quality of the S.lychnophora seedlings when cultivating.
