Study on Basic Farmland Demarcation and Protection in Urban Fringe

Abstract
Basic farmland is fundamental for national food security. With the intensification of urbanization and industrialization, the protection of basic farmland is under tremendous stress according to severe human activities. Based on elaborating domestic and foreign research progress of connotation and concept, functions, methods of evaluation and demarcation, and conservation practices of basic farmland, this study pointed out that the demarcation and protection of basic farmland should be carried out from farmland multi-functions perspectives, and more focus on delineation and protection of basic farmland in urban fringe, drawing lessons from abroad delineation of basic farmland, the quantitative and systematic basic farmland evaluation and site assessment system should be established in China. Indices of basic farmland demarcation, multi-functional protection regions, systems of legislation and planning, and development of non-governmental protection organization and appropriate scale of agricultural operations are the four established aspects of basic farmland in urban fringe for the purpose of the cultivated land protection and national food security.关键词
