A review on development of laminated bamboo lumber

Abstract
Bamboo is a green construction material which has advantages of sustainability, environmental friendliness, and the capability of being reused or recycled. Although bamboo is a promising wood substitute, its application is limited by the diameter of the bamboo culm and the low rigidity. In order to extend the application by enhancing the dimensional consistency, strength and uniformity, the bamboo culm ( usually 4-6 years) could be disassembled into thin flat lami⁃nates with a certain width and thickness. After being dried to a moisture content of 8%-12% and removed the inner part and outer part, these flat laminates were glued together to form laminated bamboo lumber ( LBL) . The component size and length could be flexibly controlled by the current production technology, which provides LBL with a bright applica⁃tion future. This paper was focused on the review of research progresses of the structural LBL domestically and world⁃wide. Firstly, based on the introduction of research and development situation on LBL manufacturing technology, two main research development directions were pointed out, which were strong durability LBL products and production auto⁃mation improvement. Secondly, the research about the basic mechanical properties of LBL was elaborated from two as⁃pects, which were material performance and structural member behavior. Then the research problems needed to be solved were proposed, such as constitutive model and failure criterion of LBL materials under complex conditions and complex stress, mechanics calculation model for the structural members under complex conditions and complex stress. Finally, the current situation of LBL standards was introduced and the LBL standards need to be developed in the future were pro⁃posed.关键词
