Abstract

As one of the by⁃products produced in the process of producing the wild apricot shell active carbon, the pyro⁃ligneous acid consists of more than 20 kinds of chemicals. The pyroligneous acid from wild apricot shell is widely applied in agriculture at present, while there is rare research on its refinement and antimicrobial activity analysis. The wild apri⁃cot shell pyroligneous acid treated with activated carbons was refined by air⁃distillation and vacuum distillation. The main organic components of the different fractions were analyzed by the Gas Chromatography⁃Mass Spectrometer ( GC⁃MS) and the antibacterial activity of the fractions was tested in the article. The results of experiment showed that the main compo⁃nents wild apricot shell pyroligneous acid have been reduced from 8 kinds of organic chemicals to 4 after being treated with the mass ratio of 5% activated carbons and refined by air⁃distillation subsequently. In addition, the refinement by vacuum distillation is supposed to have industrial application value owing to the simple post process and the removal of harmful ingredient by collecting the fraction of wood vinegar below 70 ℃ in 0�1 MPa compared with air distillation re⁃finement. The main components of the wild apricot shell pyroligneous acids refined by vacuum distillation include ethyl acetate, acetic acid and guaiacol but not pyromucic aldehyde. Its antimicrobial activity is 1�6-6�7 times better than Streptomycin Sulfate with concentration of 0�4 mg/mL, reflecting the maximum diameter of the inhibition zone in 42�33 mm. As a pure natural material, the refined pyroligneous acids from wild apricot shell has broad application prospects in food, medicine, toiletry and so forth.
