Abstract

Since 2013,data from two shallow confined wells (Tanggu and Tianchuan)in Tianjin have indicated abnormal fluctuation.Experimental test results indicated that the two wells may be affected by industrial pollution,but these results were considered to have low credibility.Howev-er,various environmental investigations have revealed well water pollution sources and pumping interferences.In this study,we found the characteristics of the data from these two wells to in-clude continuity,good stability,and high levels of abnormal fluctuation.We combined the data of the Panzhuang well,which is 28 km from the Tanggu well,and addressed the stress changes at different depths with respect to three aspects.First,we determined the relationship between the aquifer stress and the water level change with reference to a one-dimensional model of a horizon-tally layered aquifer.Second,we obtained the shear wave splitting feature of the Sg phase of a near-field earthquake series from local stations using the system analysis method in the Tanggu district.And third,we estimated the Coulomb stress of the main faults in the area.The results show that a stress variation exists from deep to shallow in the area of the two wells and the stress change has good synchronization in time and space.
