摘要
Abstract
Purpose/Significance] Research hot spots represent the topics to which researchers, policy makers and other stakeholders should pay attention. As for the approaches for detecting research hot spots, traditional approaches have certain disadvantages such as time lag and low efficiency, and the altmetrics way could be a feasible solution. [ Method/Process] In this paper, we explore the feasibility of applying altmetrics to hot spots detection. Using Altmetric Explorer provided by altmetric. com, we get a full set of Information&Compu-ting Science literatures' altmetric data, and then get a random sample of 2,500 records using SPSS random sampling. Based on these data, we explore the themes of the literatures with top 5% attention or mentioned in the past 1 month, then investigate whether the themes we get are hot topics of current research. [ Result/Conclusion] Empirical study shows that in the field of Information &Computing Science, the themes we get by altmetrics way are consistent with the actual ones, which demonstrates the feasibility of using altmetrics data in research hot spots detecting.关键词
