Abstract

This paper discussed the new method of tie-dyeing of silk fabric with reactive dyes from two aspects:hand sewing method and dye fixation method. Firstly, microwave technology was applied for the fixation of reactive dyes under single-color tie-dyeing. The experiment results show that the efficiency of dye uptake increased with the prolonged time of microwave radiation, and it could reach 90% at 4 min. It also increased with the enhanced concentration of sodium carbonate, but the degree of change was small in the range of 1 ~2g/L. The breaking strength of fabric remained unchanged basically. The color fastness to soaping and rubbing was good. This method proves the feasibility of microwave heating and fixation. After the optimum process conditions were obtained, microwave technology was applied to multicolor tie-dyeing of silk fabrics. Meanwhile, the patterns and colors were greatly enriched by combining several ways of tie-dyeing.
