Control Strategy for Low Frequency Operation of Modular Multilevel Matrix Converters with Similar Input and Output Frequencies

Abstract
This paper provided an integrated control strategy for low frequency operation of M3C with similar input and output frequencies. Herein, the arm current direct control was used, which could control the input and output phase currents as well as circulating currents simultaneously without any inner circulating current controller. The outer-loop capacitor voltage control was based on hierarchy structure, including overall voltage control, inter-phase balancing control and arm-balancing control. The high components of circulating current and zero sequence voltage were added simultaneously to the arm-balancing control, which employed proportional and resonant (PR) regulator to inhibit difference-frequency ripple voltage. The strategy is suitable for the special operation with equal input and output frequencies. Lastly the excellent dynamic and static characteristics of the strategy are verified under different operating conditions via the OPAL-Rtlab experimental system.关键词
