Cancer Patients with Chemotherapy-induced PeripheraI Neuropathy:A QuaIitative Research of Symptom Experience and Coping StyIe

Abstract
Objective To explore the symptom experience of cancer patients with chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN), its impact on activities of daily life, emotion and regular chemotherapy, as well as patients ’ coping style, so as to provide evidence for the development of effective nursing measures on CIPN. Methods Using semi-structured interviews, 18 cancer patients with CIPN was selected following the guidance of colaizzis phenomenological method in qualitative research and the conversation data were analyzed. ResuIts Four themes were concluded: Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy was a complicated side effect with various symptoms;Patients’ activities of daily life were affected;Patients’ psychological burden was heavy;Patients had different coping style to manage CIPN. ConcIusion CIPN is a complicated side effect of neurotoxic chemotherapy that negatively influences daily activities, sleep quality and moods of patients. Besides, it puts cancer patients at high risk for falls and delayed treatment. So medical staff should pay more attention to cancer patients with CIPN and explore supportive care methods to relieve or cope with these symptoms.关键词
