Abstract

This paper extended the theoretical foundation for discriminating rotor fault and load oscillation in induction motors, by deducing the analytical expressions of the instantaneous reactive power (IRP) and instantaneous active power (IAP) while rotor fault and load oscillation are simultaneously present. Such work yielded a couple of interesting findings:the pulsating component in the IRP mainly depends on rotor fault and is largely independent on load oscillation, and thus, the rotor fault detection based on such finding is basically immune to load oscillation; the pulsating component in the IAP mainly depends on load oscillation and is largely independent on rotor fault, and thus, the load oscillation detection based on such finding is basically immune to rotor fault. Moreover, the convincing diagnosis criteria of rotor fault and load oscillation were established, respectively, as well as the corresponding detection thresholds. Thus, a concurrent discrimination method of rotor fault and load oscillation in induction motors was presented. Simulation and experimental results validated the above work.
