Abstract

The condensation heat transfer performance of propane in the shell side of helical baffle heat exchanger was invested experimentally in this study. The influence of heat flux, vapor quality and mass flux was analyzed, and the heat transfer correlation was developed. The test results show that the heat transfer coefficient in shell side increases with the increasing heat flux and mass flux. The heat transfer coefficient in shell side initially increases and then decreases with vapor quality, and it reaches highest as vapor quality is 0.9. Comparing the experiment data with the existing correlation, the results show that the existing correlation deviation is over 50%. In this paper, a new correlation of condensation heat transfer coefficient was developed based on the experiment data for propane flow condensation on the shell side of helical baffle heat exchanger; the new correlation can agree with 95%of the experiment data within deviation of ±20%, and the average deviation is 14.2%.
