Abstract

For understanding the current situation and development trend of medium/low temperature coal tar in processing and utilization, two kinds of typical medium temperature coal tar were selected to analyze their properties and components in this paper, the results showed that their initial distillation points were low (< 100 ℃), they had more low temperature section (fraction below 300 ℃ accounted for more than 50%, fraction below 200 ℃ accounted for more than 20%), there were a lot of phenol and asphaltene (approximately 20%) in both of them.Combined with these results, current situation of medium/low temperature coal tar processing and utilization was investigated from three aspects (hydrogenation of medium/low temperature coal tar, extraction and purification of crude phenol, utilization of asphalt). It was found that the field of medium/low temperature coal tar processing and utilization in the future development should be concerned about the three directions:improving the quality of raw oil; improving catalyst efficiency, reducing material loss and water consumption, solving the problems of sewage and other pollutants, recycle and re-use; studying more on high value utilization of heavy component.
