Abstract

2-Hydroxypropyl trimethyl ammonium chloride chitosan (HTCC) was synthesized with chitosan and 2,3-epoxypropyl trimethyl ammonium chloride. Then the water soluble O-methyl acrylamide chitosan qua⁃ternary ammonium salt (NMA-HTCC) containing fiber reactive groups was synthesized with HTCC and N-methylolacrylamide. The antibacterial activity of chitosan and NMA-HTCC were determined by the mini⁃mum inhibitory concentration method, and the comparison was carried out. Chitosan and NMA-HTCC were used in the antibacterial finishing of mulberry silk fabric, and the antibiotic resistance of silk before and after the treatment was tested by flask shaking method. The results showed that both chitosan and NMA-HTCC had significant antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, and the antibacterial activity of NMA-HTCC was better than that of chitosan. The antibacterial activity of silk fabric, which was treated by chitosan and NMA-HTCC, to Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli were significantly improved, and the anti⁃bacterial activity of the silk fabric finished by NMA-HTCC was better than that of silk fabric finished by chito⁃san. The NMA-HTCC modified silk fabric had good slow-release performance to aloe anthraquinones extractwhen used as a drug carrier.
