Abstract
Objective To investigate the effect of botulinum toxin on electrophysiological monitoring during microvascular decompression surgery for patients with hemifacial spasm (HFS). Method A retrospective analysis was conducted on 121 patients who hospitalized in our hospital because of HFS from November 2014 to April 2015. They were divided into botulinum toxin group (30 cases) and non-botulinum toxin group (91 cases) according to preoperative ipsilateral acceptance of botulinum toxin. Botulinum toxin group patients received 3 ~ 12 injection treatment of botulinum toxin. Intraoperative electrophysiological monitored mandibular branch, zygomatic branch latency and amplitude of two groups and the incidence of complications were compared between the two groups. After 1-year follow-up, symptom relief of the patients were evaluated, and the electric physiological monitoring results were compared between remission as well as non-remission patients and botulinum toxin group as well as non-botulinum toxin group. Result The lateral spread response (LSR) latency of zygomatic branch of facial nerve in non-botulinum toxin group was significantly shorter than botulinum toxin group (P < 0.05); there was no significantly associated to the prognosis of whether the electrophysiological monitoring of marginal mandibular branch of the facial nerve disappearing alone and the marginal mandibular branches with electrophysiological monitoring disappear at the same time or not (P >0.05); patients inbotulinum toxin group zygomatic electrophysiology disappearing alone and non-botulinum toxin group patients whose zygomatic electrophysiology without disappeared were poor prognosis (P < 0.05). Conclusion Botulinum toxin can effectively delay zygomatic LSR latency, and the zygomatic disappearance of LSR can effectively predict the prognosis, which is more obvious in patients injected botulinum toxin.关键词
